Payment advanced to reserve a place on the master's degree
An advance payment can be made to reserve a place on all master's degree programmes, except the ones listed below:
- European Master's Degree in Wine Tourism (Wintour)
- Master's Degree in Training for Teachers of Compulsory Secondary Education and Upper Secondary Education, Professional Training and Language Teaching
Neither can it be made by students of any master's degree admitted in the third and fourth phases if these phases are opened because some places have not been taken in the previous phases.
All other master's degrees allow students who have pre-registered and have been admitted on academic grounds in the first and second phase to reserve their place by making an advance payment (€400), which will be deducted from the total cost of registration.
The University's Regulations Governing Registration on Bachelor's and Master's Degrees specifies the conditions regarding this advanced payment in articles 4 and 21. The following is a brief summary.
General considerations
- Admission on academic grounds in the first or second phase does not imply that a place has been reserved.
- People who have been admitted in the first or second phase are informed that they must make an advance payment to reserve their place on the course. For the 2024-25 admissions process, this payment is €400 and is deducted from the total cost of registration. It must be paid within 10 calendar days after the invoice has been generated. This amount will not be refunded if the student finally decides not to register for the master's degree, except for those master's candidates who need to attend their course in person and who can prove that they have been denied the necessary visa.
Exemptions from advance payment
Any students who can demonstrate that they meet certain conditions that give them the right to a 100% discount on public fees for academic services, including administrative taxes are exempt from advance payment. These exemptions are: disability of 33% or higher, victim of intimate-partner violence, victim of gender-based violence other than intimate-partner violence, large family (special category), victim of a terrorist attack or beneficiaries of the minimum living allowance. Students must meet these conditions on the first day of academic activity (9 September 2024).
If a student is eligible for an exemption from registration fees and if they have made an advance payment to reserve their place, when the registration process is completed, they must be refunded the corresponding amount.
Also exempt from making an advance payment are international students who can provide documentary proof that they have applied for a grant in their country of origin to study for the master's degree and are awaiting the outcome of their application.
Candidates in this situation must upload the documentary proof of their application to the document manager and then inform the coordinator so that the exemption can be evaluated and authorised, if necessary.
Deadlines for registration
- Those students who make an advance payment to reserve their place must register in the period 10-19 July.
- Those students admitted in the first or second phase who do not make an advance payment can register after the period 10-19 July by paying the corresponding fee as long as there are free places and they have been authorised to do so by the coordinator of the programme.
- Those students who have made an advance payment to reserve their place but who have not been issued with their degree certificate must register in the period 10-19 July if they successfully complete the corresponding examinations in June. If they are not issued with the certificate until September, they must register in the period 9-30 September
- Those students who have been admitted and have made the advance payment to reserve their place, but who still have a maximum of 9 credits and their bachelor's thesis pending, lose their reservation. If they wish to register, they can do so as long as there are places available and they complete the corresponding administrative procedure. This does not include the Master's Degree in Legal Practice and Legal Representation, which has its own specific regulations.
