Additional exam session for Master's courses

  • ITEM: This is a third exam session that allows students who are in the final stages of their courses during a given academic year to take exams for additional subjects on payment of the corresponding fees.

Application procedure

Who

The interested party or the authorized person on presentation of the necessary identification.

Where

At the Secretary's Office of the Faculty/School where they are carrying out their studies.

The application can also be submitted via the online administrative procedures on the URV's intranet or the URV online registry.

When

Additional exam: ordinary period.

  • From the day on which their registration is completed until 30 October.
  • For first semester subjects: during the month of February (pending on specifying the calendar).

Additional exam session in September (only for second semester subjects and master's degrees worth 60 credits):

  • From the registration is formalised until 15 September.

How

Cost

When the additional exam period is authorised, students have to pay the registration modification charge issued by the secretary's office of the faculty/school in accordance with the decree on public fees for the following scenarios: 

  • The request for an additional exam session is made for first-semester subjects during the February extraordinary period. 
  • The request for an additional exam session is for annual or second-semester subjects and is presented at least five calendar days after doing the online registration and until 30 October.  

The exemptions contemplated in the decree on public fees (such as large family) apply to the registration modification charge.

The student must also pay the full registration fee for each additional subject taken in the additional exam session. No exemptions apply.

Observations

  • (1) Academic requirements to be able to request the additional exam session:

    • for 60-credit master's degrees. There is no minimum requirement for outstanding credits.

      • for 1st semester subjects, the same course in which the master's degree is taken may be applied for.

      • for 2nd semester or annual subjects, the student must register during the following academic year and select the additional exam session and, at the centre's criteria. If the faculty/school agrees, this exam session, exceptionally, may be brought forward to September of the new academic year (2).

    • for 90-credit master's degrees. The additional exam session may be applied if the student requires up to a maximum of 13.5 credits to complete their studies.
    • for 120-credit master’s degrees. The additional exam session may be applied if the student requires up to a maximum of 18 credits to complete their studies.
  • The number of credits needed to complete studies does not include the credits from the Master's Thesis and Internship subjects if these form a compulsory part of the curriculum.
  • In order to comply with the pending credits requirement, students who apply for an additional exam session during the extraordinary period in February may also include the credits that they have passed during the first semester of the current academic year.
  • Students may not apply for an additional exam session if they only have one standard exam session, as is the case with:
    • Subjects that are highly practical in nature or others that may be stipulated by the Faculty/School. The student will be specifically informed of this in the course guide for the affected subject.
    • Subjects studied during a mobility visit (outgoing students).
    • Subjects on the Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Human Evolution.
    • Subjects on the Master's degree in Computational Engineering and Mathematics.
    • Subjects on the Master's degree in Computational Fluid Dynamics.
    • Subjects on the Inter-university Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence
  • Students who are completing their courses may ask to increase the number of subjects for which they are registered and, on payment of the necessary fees, obtain a third exam session for the subjects of their choice.  
  • Depending on the period in which the subjects are taught, additional exam sessions will take place during the following periods, at the discretion of the faculty/school, which must inform the relevant competent vice-rector:
    • December
    • January
    • May
    • June
    • (2) September of the following year

                                        

 

Resolution of the application

Who

The Head of the Secretariat. 

When

Wherever possible, at the same time as the application is submitted.

Applications to bring the additional exam session forward to September that are presented up to and including 15 September must be resolved by 22 September at the latest.

Applications presented up to 30 October must be dealt with by 30 November at the latest.
Applications presented during the month of February must be dealt with by 1 April at the latest.

How

If the application is successful, the student's academic transcript will be automatically updated in order to reflect the additional exam call and the Secretary's Office of the Faculty will send the student an email with the corresponding indications.
The student's academic transcript will be updated to reflect the additional exam call; this will substitute any personal notification (the student can consult their transcript on the Intranet - Consulting your academic transcript).
Students will be notified directly if their application is unsuccessful.

Cost

In addition to the registration fee, the student must pay the examination fee for the chosen subjects. No exemptions apply.

Independently of whether a student takes all the exams for which they have registered, no fees will be returned.

The fee for resitting exams will not be applied in the additional exam session if the student has registered for the subjects in previous academic years.

 If there are any differences between translations, the Catalan version prevails.
