Attendance at the 10th Workshop on waste prevention

The 10th Workshop on Waste Prevention took place the 21st and 22nd November 2012, at the Torre Agbar (Barcelona). This workshop was organized by the “Agencia de Residuos de Cataluña (ARC)”. It was hosted by Dr. Enric Llebot, Secretario de Medio Ambiente y Sostenibilidad de la Generalitat de Cataluña and Sr. Josep Maria Tost, director of the Agencia de Residuos de Cataluña. Òscar Saladié, director of the DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development and Beatriz Felipe, collaborator of the Chair, participated in the workshop.

Waste prevention has been advancing, and since the 1990s it has become the main priority in the hierarchy of waste management in terms of legislation. Waste prevention requires a significant change in management practices and demands the maximum level of involvement on the part of all the actors concerned: government, citizens, companies, shops, associations, administrations, and so on.

This year, the topics studied at the Workshop were the following:

•  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and waste prevention
• Prevention of food wastage
• Reuse and preparation for reuse
• Tools for waste prevention in the local sphere
