Marcela Lagarde y de los Ríos, a Mexican anthropologist, politician and leading feminist, has been awarded an honorary degree by the URV. A lecturer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, she is the author of numerous articles and books on gender studies, feminism, human development and democracy.

Lagarde is a theorist and activist who created the concept of "feminicide" to refer to the crimes, kidnappings and disappearances of women and girls in Ciudad Juárez (Mexico) and succeeded in creating a Special Commission on Feminicide in the Mexican Congress. The concept of "sisterhood" is also hers, understood as the recognition and unity of women.

Marcela Lagarde will participate in the event online and will be sponsored by Dolors Comas d'Argemir, emeritus professor at the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work.
