Service Learning in the Degree of Physiotherapy (EUSES)

Physiotherapy in primary care

  • Coordination: Núria Besalduch Canes (nuria.besalduch(ELIMINAR)@euseste.es)
  • Community organization: Actuació Clínica Service -SAC.
  • Summary: Students make evaluations before suggesting and applying treatments. These are not medical treatments and students have to suggest which treatment to apply depending on their assessment. At all times, students will be under the supervision of a physiotherapist tutor, who will supervise the assessment, discuss the treatment proposed, be present at the treatment, offer critical assessment, and evaluate the progress of both student and patient.

Geriatric physiotherapy

  • Coordination: Núria Besalduch Canes (nuria.besalduch(ELIMINAR)@euseste.es)
  • Community organization: Sant Miquel Arcàngel Nursing Home - Tortosa.
  • Summary: Students conduct prior observations before designing a plan of action. They then present their plan to their tutors at the nursing home, who validate the plan and implement it with their patients. The students then reflect on their experiences. In this way, students bring a breath of fresh air to the working environment and patients benefit from a change in treatment or approach, which can often be monotonous for both patient and caregiver. The students should try to be innovative while always following the rules and guidelines of the nursing home and working under the supervision of their tutor.

Optional mentored practice: research, sport, hydrotherapy
