Protocol for accidents to URV students during unpaid internships

Since the entry into force on 01/01/2024 of the 52nd additional provision of Royal Decree-Law 2/2023 of 16 March, the University registers and pays the Social Security contributions of all its students who carry out unpaid external internships, meaning that they are included in the General Social Security Regime in a manner similar to employees of the URV. Therefore, the URV's private health insurance company is responsible for paying for any care and expenses that may result from accidents suffered by students on the way to or during their internship. In these cases, the following protocol must be followed:

1. If the accident DOES NOT REQUIRE urgent care and allows the student to travel, the student should preferably seek care from one of Mútua Umivale Activa's own centres, which are published on its website. This list contains Mútua Umivale Activa's own centres, as well as public and subsidised centres where care can also be obtained.

2. If the accident REQUIRES urgent and immediate attention, (punctures, cuts, open wounds or injuries caused by sanitary/chemical material or other similar circumstances), the student must obtain care from a public or subsidised centre of the Catalan Government. The student must then present the medical report of the care they have received to Mútua Umivale Activa (click here to see centres and contact details) so that it can create a medical care record for the student. It is advisable for to the student to present this report in person.

3. In both of the above two cases, the student must make a request for health care assistance: to do so, students must fill in sections 2, 3 and 4 of the following template document. In section 4 it is very important that the student includes a clear and thorough description of the accident:

4. The student must then send the request for health care assistance to the Student Office (OFES) at the email address practiques(ELIMINAR)@urv.cat. If the student has any questions, they can also call 977 55 85 81, 977 55 82 35 or 977 55 87 56.

5. When the OFES receives the correctly completed health care assistance request form, it will sign it and send it to the insurance company, the student and the centre where he/she studies.

6. Finally, the student must use Mútua Umivale Activa for any continuing medical monitoring of their situation.

For other types of accident that occur outside of unpaid internships, the protocol associated with the compulsory school insurance (for students under 28 years of age) must be followed. According to the instructions given on 18/05/2023 the student only needs a health care report if they received care in a state-subsidised centre, they do not need one if they received care in a public centre.
