Inter-university Master's Degree in Health Data Science - 2nd edition

Admission

The interuniversity Master's Degree in Health Data Science is aimed at graduates with scientific and technical degrees in bioinformatics, science and engineering who wish to specialise in data science in the field of health. Specifically, it is aimed at graduates in bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, physics, biomedical engineering, computer engineering and other related engineering degrees.

People with a bachelor's degree or equivalent other than the above may apply for admission if they hold a master's or doctoral degree in bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, physics, biomedical engineering, computer engineering or other related engineering fields; alternatively, they can accredit advanced knowledge in programming equivalent to 100 hours of training in general-purpose structured programming languages, or 50 hours of training in programming languages for use in data science.

Students must also provide proof that they have at least a B2 level in English. Candidates from English-speaking countries or with an English-speaking access qualification do not need to certify a B2 level. The master's degree committee may establish mechanisms for assessing the level of English through an interview or a level test.

The entrepreneurial profile of candidates will be positively valued.

Specific compulsory documentation

To be given admission to the programme, as well as the compulsory general documentation for a master's degree, applicants must also submit the following documents:

  • English level B2 certification or equivalent; the Admissions Committee may decide to assess the English level of applicants who are not in possession of such a certificate.
  • Certification of the applicant's indexed publications.
  • Certification of the applicant's participation in research projects.
  • Certification of the applicant's life-long training.
  • Certification of the applicant's work experience.

Selection criteria

If there are more applicants than places available, candidates will be prioritised according to the total score obtained using the following criteria:

  • Academic record of the bachelor's degree that allows access to the master's degree: up to 10 points.
  • Suitability of the candidate's profile: up to 6 points.
  • University degree in data sciences or related fields, in addition to the access qualification (diploma, bachelor's degree, master's degree, postgraduate or doctorate): up to 2 points.
  • Publications in indexed journals and participation in competitive projects: up to 2 points.
  • Life-long training related to the contents of the master's degree (courses, seminars or other training activities, duly certified): up to 2 points.
  • Professional experience in data science or in any field related to the contents of the master's degree: up to 2 points.

If the initial number of places offered (80) is not covered, the academic coordination will admit applicants who meet the admission criteria without the need to prioritise pre-registration applications based on merit.
