The creation of the Research Center on Engineering of Materials and micro/nanoSystems (EMaS) was approved by the Government Council of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) on May 2, 2007, after the favourable assessment from the Academic Ordination and Research Commission that took place on April 18, 2007. The Council entrusted the EMaS team with the elaboration of the strategic plan for the center.

The Government Council of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) on July 10, 2008 approved the strategic plan and the internal rules of EMaS.

The EMaS Research Center was finally founded on September 22, 2008, with the signed agreement between the Rovira i Virgili University and the center EMaS to carry out the center development.
