In 1989 an inter-disciplinary research group
called GREC (Gender, Race, Ethnic group, Class) was formed in the
Arts Faculty. Trough all this time, this group has developed academic
activities inside the frame of its name: to work and study the identities
and differences, mainly, from the women´s point of view for
them being acceptable and visible. Trough courses, publications, conferences
cycles and other alternatives, the GREC has worked and works from
different disciplines and studies with the aim of freedom for the
diverse and multiples feminine identities.
For this reason, the GREC, so far a research group of students and
teachers and other statements with concrete components, wants to open
it to the society and to be a new place for the encounter of women
in this territory.
With these goals to reach: feminine identities being visible, accepted
and treated with non discriminatory conditions in all levels, because
to be equals does not mean identical; feminine identities present
in all ambits and estates of decision, free on their approaches and
definitions and valuing their contributions and cultures. We want
to create a network of action and participation of women in our territory.
From the GREC, we want to open and to act to reach those goals, to
do so we need to be many, diverse and coordinated. Our idea about
GREC world-network is open to women simply interested on living in
feminine without problems, young women very interested on day life
problems in all aspects: studies, jobs, economy, health, culture,
sexual options, city or country, communication media. We really want
to create a network to promote a space of information, dialogue, participation
and interchange.
In this way, if you are interested in participate and/or to know more
things about our proposal, please write us. Also it can be you already
are in some association or movement, if so, we appreciate you give
us the contact person of your group, association, federation or movement
to increase our network of action and participation. We are really
convinced that to build a free and fair society is a matter of all.
A matter of all initiatives, which want to correct and change discriminatory,
unfair and unacceptable structures and situations.
